Military Intelligence

I'm back! (Cue Aerosmith's "Back in the Saddle." )

Someday soon I'll post a good encapsulation of my experiment with teaching (I need a bit of distance before I'm ready to put a stamp on it), but right now I'm elated to get back to what I really love doing, which is copyediting.

I've started by taking on some serious nonfiction--military history, one of my favorite subjects--and here's a shiny bauble of a booboo to share with you:

The strategy wasn't complicated: French Trench warfare to hold the fort.

AU: As meant? As much as I love the French, that doesn't seem like a good strategy.

Love,

Unless by "holding the fort", the author meant something like upholding the French language against the nefarious infiltration of foreign words such as Twitter and Facebook?

    Welcome back!

  3. French warfare... hmm... Sounds like it should either involve not doing so well, Napoleon, or tongues...

(Always mystified me how a people who's civic-mindedness and spirit of not taking any crap I admire could have such a not-so-great war track record... But I do love the French).

Would you be so kind as to also tell me what your Word Verification word is when you comment? Creating a funny definition for it is a bonus. Love, Your Copyeditor.
